Urban?Rural Gradient in Urban Heat Island Variations Responsive to Large?Scale Human Activity Changes During Chinese New Year Holiday

چکیده

Large-scale human activity changes in megacities during Chinese New Year (CNY) are believed to significantly affect urban heat islands (UHIs). However, the urban-rural gradient UHI variations responsive cities remains largely unclear. Using in-situ surface air temperature obtained from a meteorological network that includes 3000-plus stations, we show mean intensity (UHII) 31 capitals is 0.52 ± 0.23 K CNY holiday and 0.77 0.29 reference period, indicating UHII reduction of 0.25 0.20 holiday. The reduced decreased more city core (0.54 K) periphery (0.071 K). We find these reductions were larger at night than day northern subtropical warm temperate climates other climates. These mainly attributable decline anthropogenic release.

Influence of human population movements on urban climate of Beijing during the Chinese New Year holiday

The population movements for the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations, known as the world's largest yearly migration of human beings, have grown rapidly in the past several decades. The massive population outflows from urban areas largely reduce anthropogenic heat release and modify some other processes, and may thus have noticeable impacts on urban climate of large cities in China. Here, we use...

Urban Heat Island

We are all familiar with the fact that cities are generally warmer than the surrounding, more rural areas. We see it referenced most nights in our television weather reports. It is especially significant on nights with clear skies and light winds which favor radiational cooling. This is most significant in the rural areas but in the city, the excess heat absorbed during the day and the local he...

Spatiotemporal trends of urban heat island effect along the urban development intensity gradient in China.

Urban heat island (UHI) represents a major anthropogenic modification to the Earth system and its relationship with urban development is poorly understood at a regional scale. Using Aqua MODIS data and Landsat TM/ETM+ images, we examined the spatiotemporal trends of the UHI effect (ΔT, relative to the rural reference) along the urban development intensity (UDI) gradient in 32 major Chinese citi...
